Allergy Machine vs. HealthMate

The HealthMate purfiers have a true medical HEPA filter surrounded by a carbon/zeolite mixture which adsorbs odors and gases. The Allergy Machine has a HEGA filter, comprised of a true medical HEPA filter placed outside an advanced military carbon cloth which absorbs odors and gases. Both products are effective for those with allergies and asthma. The Allergy Machine may be more effective for people who smoke or are in contact with more odor sources, and since it is lighter in weight it can be moved from room-to-room more easily. HealthMate models are more effective for persons with chemical sensitivities.

HealthMate vs. HealthMate+

The HealthMate and HealthMate+ both use a true medical HEPA filter, granular carbon and zeolite. The carbon in the HealthMate+ is impregnated with potassium iodide, which makes the unit even more effective at removing formaldehyde and ammonia. Sources of formaldehyde in homes can be carpets, wood construction and furniture materials (MDF, plywood, etc.) and upholstery. The HealthMate+ is especially good for use in places with high levels of chemical use or off-gassing, such as new and remodeled homes, laboratories, beauty salons and other businesses. Removal of asterisked items on this list of contaminants removed is about 10% higher with a HealthMate+.

Pet Machine vs. HealthMate

The HealthMate has a true medical HEPA filter surrounded by a carbon/zeolite mixture which adsorbs odors and gases. The Pet Machine's carbon/zeolite mixture is specially impregnated to remove pet and ammonia (urine) odors.

Removing Wildfire Smoke

There is a lot of conflicting information on the Internet about how to filter wildfire smoke. The granular activated carbon in the Healthmate, Healthmate Plus, Pet Machine and Bedroom Machine works better than the carbon cloth in the Allergy Machine (called HEGA) for wildfire smoke. There is more media in these units than in those that use HEGA cloth, and it is much better at removing smoke odor.

Standard vs. Junior

A standard purifier cleans up to 1500 square feet and is good for a one-story house or apartment with a relatively open floor plan. It can be easily moved to adjoining rooms on the attached casters, but hauling it upstairs would be more of a chore. A junior unit cleans up to 700 square feet and is recommended for a single room, and is light enough to move to other rooms during the day.

Replacement Filters

You can purchase a replacement filter for all standard and junior size models here. All standard-size units are interchangeable with all standard-size filters; and likewise for junior-size units. So, if you purchased a Standard HealthMate and would like to upgrade to a Bedroom Machine, you can simply replace your old HealthMate filter with a new Bedroom Machine filter.
